This is part 4 of my series on audio effects, and this time it’s all about delay processing.
Delay Processors
In it’s simplest form, a delay is made up of very few components.
An audio input, a recording device, a playback device and an audio output.

Tape Delay
Early delay processors, such as the Echosonic, Echoplex and the Roland Space Echo, were based on analog tape technology. They used magnetic tape as the recording and playback medium. Some of these devices adjusted delay time by adjusting the distance between the playback and record heads, and others used fixed heads and adjustable tape speed.

Hey Everyone!
I’ve got a bunch of small updates and stuff to talk about.
Hello Stumblers – Thanks to Stumbleupon site traffic has more than doubled and some days has peaked at about 3000 hits. This is awesome! I have no idea if the visitors like what they are reading, unless they comment. So if you like something or have something to say please comment!
Ohm Force – The ProToolerBlog Ohm Force Group Buy just ended today. I picked up the Ohmicide multiband distortion and Ohmboyz delay for a sweet 60% off. I’ll probably do a review of these two plugs in the next few weeks.
X-Orcise – If you haven’t gotten your free SSL X-Orcism plugin (VST/AU), what are you waiting for??!!
Quad Core – I just ordered parts to build a new computer. This one has been extremely flaky in the last few months. Pro Tools 8 is coming out so I need something more powerful and stable. I went with a Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GhZ) this time with 4GB RAM and an Antec P182 silent case. This is about 4x faster/better than my current pc and cost $1400 less, even with the shite CDN dollar these days.
Pro Tools 8 – Speaking of Pro Tools 8, Next Saturday (Nov. 15) at 12pm, there will be a demo of Pro Tools 8 at Revolution Audio in Mississauga as part of the 4th anniversary event. If you can’t make it to that one, the Pro Tools 8 Sneak Peek Tour has stops all across the continent.
I can’t believe it! – After months of silence, PSN finally posted podcast episode #100.
I think there’s more, but I forget what else.

Recabinet 1.0 has been released today, a massive collection of high quality impulse responses of various guitar cabinets with multiple mics in various positions. This is gear towards anyone producing rock/hard-rock/metal etc. and allow you to record direct (through your favorite virtual guitar amp or through the preamp section of your favorite real amp) then have a huge array of cabinet choices a few clicks away. This is reamping in-the-box.
Here’s a sample of Recabinet (Ghandi” 6L6 57 cap impulse) on some direct guitars in a mix.
Modern Metal (Full Band Mix)
Recabinet 1.0 is only $39.99 USD (until the new year) and is a total bargain considering how much time and money (not to mention Volume) it would take to approach what’s available in this library.
There is a demo with 32 impulses available.
Details on Recabinet Below:
