CD sales are down 20% since last year, which were already at the lowest point ever. This is likely due to P2P sharing of music, online sales at iTunes.com, puretracks.com etc. and the fact that there really hasn’t been anything good music released this year yet. The new Nine Inch Nails album is coming out soon, that should boost sales a little, but there is a rumor that it will be leaked online today.
I wonder what the sales are like for HDCDs and SACDs? ;)

A bit can either be a 0 or a 1. Think of it as a light switch, the light is either on or off. Add another to control the brightness, and another and another etc. 16 bits (216) gives you 65536 steps of quantization. 24 bits is 16777216 levels. Thats probably enough resolution, but then there is also 32 bit float. Audio formats have pretty much stopped here, no need to go higher than that, as most people can’t hear the difference between 16 and 24 bit, or 128 vs 320kbs .mp3!
This is the sort of thing that keeps me up at night. Please correct me if I am wrong in my calculation.

One of the biggest issues Protools LE users have to deal with is latency, whether it’s plugin latency or the delay heard when not using direct monitoring on an Mbox. What I will go though today is measuring the delay when using outboard gear, specifically with the Digi002, and what to do about it to correct the problem. This tutorial should be helpful for anyone that wants to use outboard gear in their computer based studio.

Blogs always do this, why should this one be any different? The bands on this list aren’t wicked underground, but are bands that have really impressed me in the past year with their latest releases.
